Scugnizza wins the Copa del Rey: the first Italian boat to win twice

"Es el segundo año consecutivo que ganamos la Copa del Rey," began Enzo De Blasio, owner/helmsman of the now world-famous IY 11.98 Scugnizza ashore in Palma de Mallorca. There is something to be satisfied about after winning the 41st Copa del Rey in ORC3 with an impressive series of partials in the final races: six first places out of six races and . And an abysmal 22-point lead over the second. Thanks to these Scugnizza also receives the Mapfre Trophy for the best result on corrected time. Inevitably, the formidable team captained by Enzo De Blasio, tactician Diogo Caiolla and with Umberto and Antonio Coppola, Andrea Ballico, Andrea Bussani, Nevio Sabadin, Nikolaus Matteo Mascoli, Francesco Murillo, Mario Prodigo and Francesco Russo, celebrated yet another important victory, not before receiving the Copa from the hands of King Felipe VI of Spain. An emotion that was certainly all the greater because the King, an experienced sailor (and skipper of the TP 52 Aifos second in ORC 1,ed). "A special thanks to all the organisers of the Copa del Rey, it was an exceptional race course, with perfect weather. Mallorca is the best place to have regattas," De Blasio explains. But other teams from the Italia Yachts Family also enjoyed themselves and gave us beautiful emotions from this race course. First of all Gonzalo Calvo's IY 9.98 Lassal, at his debut on a race course, finished on the second step of the podium in ORC4, 12 points tied for first . Never having finished higher than third, for Gonzalo "it was a very good week, in which we started off a bit weak because we had to get to know the boat and check the team's chemistry, as it was practically the first time we were racing together. Little by little we got the hang of it and started from a third place to finish the last two races in first place. I am sure that with everything we have learned on the boat, we will be able to improve our results in the next regattas. I am happy and looking forward to the next challenges. Not bad results also for IY 11.98 Geex, in the hands of Lucas Massa and Rodrigo Funes, finishing the series in fourth place overall, followed by Stefano Rusconi's IY 11.98 To Be. Judging by the placings, we are certain of the ample satisfaction of everyone on the race course.
